| "A place almost
too beautiful to live in" |
| John

Cumbria is a land of contrasts - dramatic mountain
passes and shimmering lakes, hidden valleys, secret
tarns, sudden waterfalls, wild heather and moorland,
gentle rolling hills and stunning coastal sunsets. At
it's heart is the Lake District National Park, the largest,
most spectacular and most visited of Britain's National
Parks, home to England's deepest lake, Wastwater, and
highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
The area is a haven for wildlife and here you may see
endangered species such as the red squirrel, roe deer,
otters, badgers, pine martins and England's only pair
of nesting eagles. Proudly, Cumbria is the first Green
Globe destination in the world.
