Most fells are open to everyone and you can cycle or ride on bridleways and by-ways. There are many free guided walks available with National Park Authority guides, as well as more specialised walks for which there is a small charge.

At Derwentwater Marine at Portinscale is a RYA recognised sailing centre which also offers tuition in climbing, ghyll scrambling, abseiling and guided hill walking. The Howtown Activity Centre by the steamer pier on the eastern shore of Ullswater also offers tuition in sailing, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing and ghyll scrambling.

Amenities

You can enjoy boating, sailing, windsurfing and fishing on the lake. In addition, our reception centre has a small indoor family pool and sauna, and there are books, games and a video lending library. Outside, is our children's playground.
For the more energetic, equestrian, cycling, tennis and golf facilities are nearby and of course for walkers, the mountains, fells and lakes are waiting to be explored.
