Holiday parks in Lake District Cumbria - A superb range of accommodation set in secluded woodland on the edge of the spectacular Bassenthwaite Lake, recently designated a National Nature Reserve.
Holidays park in the Lake District Cumbria - Bassenthwaite Lakeside, an exclusive privately owned park situated on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake at the foot of the dramatic Skiddaw mountain in the National Park. Our area boasts picturesque towns and villages, beautiful rolling countryside, stunning lake and mountain scenery, historic houses, churches, mills, mines and museums and many animal attractions suitable for families with children. All this and peace and tranquillity too - no wonder people keep coming back to us for more! Adjacent to our Park is the spectacular Bassenthwaite Lake, Lakeland's fourth largest at 4 miles long and the shallowest at 70 feet deep. It is the only lake as all the others are meres or waters. It is home to a rare species of fish and to a great variety of wildfowl, birds and red squirrels which live along its shores. Our Park enjoys the rare privilege of being able to launch dinghies, canoes and rowing boats from it's own jetty. The Keswick Indoor Climbing Wall, situated behind the Cumberland Pencil Museum Keswick, offers tuition abseiling, ghyll scrambling, canoeing, rock climbing and mountain biking as well as an assault course, guided walks, farm visits and bike hire. At Rookin House Farm, Troutbeck, near Penrith, you can have a go at quad biking, tank driving, human bowling, go karting, dune buggies, archery, JCB driving, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding. Pony trekking is available at Park Foot, Pooley Bridge, where you can ride over Barton Fell with spectacular views of Ullswater or, nearer to the Park, at Rookin House, near Ullswater. For golfers there is the Keswick Golf Club, 18 holes set amidst splendid scenery at Threlkeld and the Penrith Golf Centre and Driving Range with a 300 yard floodlit range and a 9 hole pay and play golf course. Fishing is available on most lakes and tarns - it is free on Ullswater and Windermere but a licence may be required on other lakes and rivers. Even non railway enthusiasts will love
the elegant Victorian viaducts of the Settle to Carlisle
railway set in spectacular scenery. The tiny Ravenglass
to Eskdale narrow gauge steam train runs for 7 miles
through the beautiful Eskdale valley with wonderful
views of England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike. Finally, there are several animal attractions which children will love such as Trotters and Friends, just 5 minutes to the north of the Park - a children's zoo where you can feed and pet the animals as well as the Lakeland Sheep and Wool Centre near Cockermouth and Eden Ostrich World near Penrith. At Wetheriggs Pottery children can paint their own cups and plates or have a go at making a pot themselves. What's
